KARNITSKAYA, Nina Andreyevna

Nina Andreevna Karnitskaya (May 5, 1906, Kiev – August 21, 1983, Novosibirsk) – Soviet composer, Honored Artist of the North Ossetian ASSR (1966). Daughter of pediatrician A. O. Karnitsky. In 1929, Karnitskaya graduated from the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in the composition class of Boris Karagichev , and in 1931 , in the piano class of M. L. Presman. From 1926 to 1938, she taught theoretical subjects at the Music Technical School and the Music College, and from 1938 to 1948, at the Azerbaijan Conservatory. From 1929 to 1932, she was a composer at the TRAM, and from 1932 to 1940, at the Russian Drama Theatre in Baku. In Azerbaijan, Karnitskaya wrote the symphony "Absheron", the concert fantasy "Arshin Mal Alan" (the material was based on the melodies of the operetta "Arshin Mal Alan" by Uzeyir Hajibeyov), and was engaged in the arrangement of Azerbaijani folk songs. From 1948 to 1961 she was a teacher, head of the general department and special theoretical department of the music school in the city of Ordzhonikidze. From 1975 she lived in Novosibirsk. She died in the same city on August 21, 1983. She is buried in the Zaeltsovskoye cemetery.
