KANAKA’OLE, Edith

Edith Kanakaʻole was a respected kumu hula, composer, and community leader. She played a significant role in the preservation and celebration of Native Hawaiian culture.

The Edith Kanakaʻole Foundation, established in 1990, is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing Hawaiian intelligence through cultural education. The foundation's work is rooted in the teachings and traditional practices of Edith and Luka Kanakaʻole.

Following her passing, the family of Edith Kanakaʻole established the Hale Kanakaʻole Fund. This fund supports students within the University of Hawaiʻi system, with a particular focus on those of Native Hawaiian ancestry, recognizing her contributions to Native Hawaiian educational pursuits.
