JOHNSON, Britta

Britta Johnson is an acclaimed Canadian composer, lyricist, and playwright known as a leading voice in contemporary musical theatre. Raised in Stratford, Ontario, in a musical family, she earned her Bachelor of Music in composition from the University of Toronto. She rose to prominent national and international attention with her award-winning musical Life After, for which she wrote the book, music, and lyrics. The show won multiple Dora Mavor Moore Awards before making its U.S. debut at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego and Goodman Theatre in Chicago.

Johnson’s diverse catalogue includes collaborative theatrical works such as "Kelly v. Kelly" (co-created with Sara Farb), "Dr. Silver: A Celebration of Life" (co-written with her sister Anika Johnson), and "Stupidhead!". Recognized by the Broadway Women’s Fund as one of the "Women to Watch on Broadway", her work spans narrative musicals, immersive soundscapes, and ballet librettos.
