JOHN, Kathleen Louis Saint

Kathleen Louise St. John is an American composer, pianist, and educator based in New York. She earned her M.F.A. in Music Composition in 1979 from the California Institute of the Arts, where she studied under Mel Powell, performed as a pianist for Morton Subotnick's 20th-Century Players Ensemble, and subsequently joined the CalArts music faculty to teach theory and piano.

Throughout her career, St. John has received commissions from repertory companies, universities, and performers across the United States and internationally. A Tanglewood Fellow mentored by Alexander Goehr, she has held residencies at the American Dance Festival at Duke University and the Charles Ives Center, and has been awarded multiple fellowships at the MacDowell Colony (including a Norlin Foundation Fellowship dedicated to Aaron Copland) and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
