Notes:

Sohui Jeong is a South Korean composer currently based in Berlin, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in composition at the Universität der Künste Berlin, under the guidance of Elena Mendoza, Manolis Vlitakis, and Tom Rojo Poller. Her work has been shaped by collaborations with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern, and Ensemble Multilaterale, experiences that have deeply informed her compositional language. Jeong’s music is distinguished by her interest in exploring irony, sarcasm, the grotesque, and humor. Drawing on influences from theater and poetics, she strives to create multilayered works that reveal shifting perspectives and play with ambiguity. Jeong’s approach, which she calls “Multicontextualized Music,” focuses on blending vocality and instrumentation in ways that evoke unexpected contrasts, mirroring the complexity of human interactions and societal contradictions. By integrating elements of vocal and instrumental interplay, she seeks to create music that moves fluidly between sincerity and self- awareness, engaging both performers and audiences in a space that is both introspective and humorous.
