JAMBOR, Agi

Agi Jambor was a musician and professor who moved to the United States from Budapest. She settled in Pennsylvania with the help of an American diplomat. In the mid-1960s, she was met by Frances Pinter, who later recalled Jambor as a bohemian aunt. Jambor worked as a Professor of Piano at Bryn Mawr College. She was a concert pianist who performed for President Harry Truman. Jambor also composed music, including a piano sonata for the Victims of Auschwitz and a work titled *Psalmus Humanus* with Albert Szent-Györgyi. She was involved in raising money for starving children in Vietnam and advocated for the preservation of forgotten instruments, particularly the marimba. Jambor was also known for her liberal views and her opposition to McCarthyism. She passed away in 1997.
