IBANEZ, Maria del Carmen

María del Carmen Ibáñez was a Spanish composer, pianist, inventor, educator, and ethnomusicologist. She dedicated her professional life to teaching, composition, and the collection of folk songs from the province of Albacete, eventually compiling the Cancionero de la Provincia de Albacete (Songbook of the Province of Albacete).

Ibáñez pursued her work as a composer alongside her activities in teaching, performance, and musical research; bibliographic studies classify her as one of the first Spanish female composers of the modern era. She used the pseudonym "Skrienty" for the dissemination of her work. She composed approximately one hundred pieces between 1917 and 1958. Her primary compositional genres included vocal arrangements, songs and instrumental dances, foxtrots, hymns, impromptus, marches, masses, nocturnes, pasodobles, rhapsodies, sonatas, schottisches, tangos, "tonadillas", and more.
