HYAN, Käthe

Käthe was the daughter of shoemaker Konrad Bocksch and his wife Wally, née Arper. In 1898, she married cabaret artist Hans Hyan (1868–1944). In 1901, they founded the cabaret Zur Silbernen Punschterrine in Schröder's Restaurant in Steglitz . Before that, they had performed in Max Tilke's short-lived Cabaret zum hungrigen Pegasus . Hyan set her husband's texts to music and accompanied their performances on the lute. Her appearances at the Viennese cabaret Fledermaus (1907) are also documented. Carl Leopold Hollitzer designed a Biedermeier-style scenario for her there, and Peter Altenberg and Oscar A.H. Schmitz recalled her performance. Performances at the Linden Cabaret in Berlin are documented from 1920.
