Richard Wagner’s great-great-grandniece initially studied piano with Fritz Peiser in Paris before pursuing vocal studies at the Berlin Conservatory, at Marie Schulz-Dornburg’s opera school, and with Cornelis Bronsgeest. She began performing in symphony and solo concerts in 1939 and was a member of the Berlin State Opera ensemble from 1945 to 1947. There, she performed—both acting and singing—in productions such as Engelbert Humperdinck’s *Hänsel und Gretel*, Giacomo Puccini’s *Il tabarro* (*Der Mantel*), and Eugen d’Albert’s *Tiefland*.
Hübener also worked as a voice artist and singer for radio, appearing on stations such as NWDR, SFB, BR, RIAS, Radio Zürich, and the Columbia Broadcasting System. In the 1951 WDR production *Liebe im Dreiklang* (conducted by Franz Marszalek), she sang the duets "Glücklich schätz ich mich" and "Seit mich mein Weg zu dir geführt" alongside Peter Anders. Furthermore, she recorded individual popular songs, such as "Ich stell' den Rundfunk ganz leise."
