HOFER-SCHNEEBERGER, Emma

Emma Hofer-Schneeberger, the second oldest daughter of teacher Jakob Schneeberger, was born in the beautiful "Buchsibergen" area of Herzogenbuchsee, in the Neuhaus schoolhouse. Her father understood her love of music and her great poetic talent and encouraged her abilities. After completing her teacher training in Bern, she only taught briefly in Schüpfen, as an illness prevented her from working for an extended period. Having to give up her beloved teaching profession, she sought respite in the mountains. At the age of 19, she wrote and set to music her first song, "Alpufzug" (Spring has already come to the mountains).
