HELLMAN-GEWORKIAN, Karin

Karin Hellman-Geworkian is a Swedish pianist and composer with roots from Armenia.

After her studies 1985 at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan, Karin has been developing her international concert activity as a soloist, a chamber musician, an accompanist and a teacher. In 1991, after her arrival in Sweden, she expanded her concert activities into the Nordic countries. In the same year, she was awarded the Prix du Conservatoire National in Paris. During 1992-1993, she worked as an accompanist at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. She had further training in 2001 in Hannover with Lev Naumov, the successor of Heinrich Neuhaus. In 2004-2006, she studied at the Summer Academy at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Hans Leygraf, as well as with Robert Levin and Norman Shetler, and composition with Alexander Mullenbach 2009. In 2003-2005, she was a member of the board of the Swedish Musicians' Union, with responsibility for classical music. Karin Hellman-Geworkian has initiated several international musical meetings in the Nordic countries, Austria, France and elsewhere.

Karin has worked with several international projects: "Musical bouquet from Carl Lineés garden" when the city of Halmstad celebrated 700 years; "Flower in Music" for the 300 years jubileum of Carl Linnés in St Petersburg; in France for the 200-years jubileum of Napoléon with a program "Napoléon et Musique"; and in Wien to edit, publish and record the music of Joseph Strauss.

During 2013 to 2016 Karin has been working with a musical portrait of the Armenian composer Komitas, performing as a part of the annual Komitas Festival in Yerevan, Armenia. Already as a child, she won a prize in the Komitas contest in Armenia, a competition for young talents named after the famous Armenian composer Komitas.

Her compositions are mainly for her own instrument, the piano, but also for other instruments, voices and orchestra. In 2017 during the congress "The Future of Singing" was perfomed her work with title "Congratulations".

March 2019 her composition "Introduction and Capriccio" was performed by Karin at the piano with Haninge Sinfonietta conducted by Sabine Beyer.

Same year she started studying composition and conducting at Gotland Tonsättarskola (Music Composition College in Gotland).
