Nimet Hanım was an influential Turkish classical music composer of the late Ottoman era who left an indelible mark on traditional art music despite the historical scarcity of documentation on her life. Much of her biography and repertoire was lost to time, but her legacy is immortalized by her single surviving masterpiece, "Altın Tasta Gül Kuruttum" (also known as "Alim"). This lyric song, brilliantly structured in the Acemkürdî musical mode and a 9/8 Aksak rhythm, seamlessly blended classical refinement with poetic romance, eventually crossing over into a beloved Turkish folk staple that continues to be recorded by prominent vocalists today.
