Gertrud was born in 1936 in Wuppertal. After working in social pedagogy in various cities, she pursued a second degree in music in Wuppertal. Since 1972, she has taught violin at music schools, and since 1974 in Siegen. She is a member of the Else Lasker-Schüler Society in Wuppertal, the German Association of Musicians, and the International Working Group for Women and Music. "Hanefeld's poems are declarations of love to nature, the Creator, and love itself... Texts were also heard as a declaration of war against destruction, against jarring dissonances". She won the Prize for female poets of God from the Women's Church Calendar, Hanna Strack Publishing, Church Convention Berlin in 2003.
