HALLBERG-NORLIND, Hanna

Beata Johanna ( Hanna ) Henrika Laurentia Hallberg-Norlind , formerly Hallberg, born 14 July 1858 in Landskrona parish , Malmöhus county , died 24 January 1929 in Lund , was a Swedish composer , organist , pianist , singing teacher and choir director . She was the daughter of the music director Bengt Wilhelm Hallberg (1824–1883) and Eva Beata Cecilia Hallberg, née Schuwert (1824–1898).

Hallberg studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm from 1878. She studied piano with Hilda Thegerström and organ with August Lagergren. She further studied at the Leipzig Conservatory with Carl Piutti, Theodor Coccius and Salomon Jadassohn. She then returned to Sweden and taught singing in Lund and Landskrona.

In 1891, Hanna Hallberg-Norlind became organist at Allhelgonakyrkan in Lund and founded the NP Norlind Music School with her husband, Nils Peter Norlind. In 1909, she co-founded the South Swedish Music Conservatory in Lund and from 1912 she was its director. The Norlinds are buried at Norra Cemetery in Lund.
