Country of location: United Kingdom

Notes:

Mrs C. E. Habicht (fl. 1836-1848) is only known to us by her married name, as the composer of the American ballad 'The Sun is in the West' for voice and piano. In its first incarnation the work was published under a man's arrangement, and the composer known only as 'a lady amateur'. Subsequent printings named Mrs C. E. Habicht as the composer. Mrs Habicht was the subject of dedications in compositions by Henry Russell and Friedrich Ave Lallemand, suggesting she was known to others as an active musician.
