Ruth Gatrell was a composer and violinist. She began reading music at age three and played her first professional violin engagement at eleven. Gatrell served as concert mistress of the University of Utah Symphony for three years and was a highly placed local violinist in the Utah Symphony during the early Abravanel era. Her compositions received numerous awards and spanned various genres, including a cantata, choral works, children's and popular songs, arrangements, and piano and violin solos. Gatrell also led a performing group, The Ruth Gatrell Singers, which presented annual concerts of her original music. All her audio recordings and sheet music are available for free download and non-commercial use.
