Josephine Fröhlich ("Pepi") was a prominent Austrian soprano, vocal teacher, and composer of the Romantic era. While best remembered for her successful operatic career across Central Europe and Scandinavia, she was an integral part of Vienna's vibrant musical life and left a modest legacy as a composer. She studied singing between 1819 and 1821 at the Vienna Conservatory under the tutelage of her sister Anna. She made her operatic debut in 1821 as Konstanze in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio). Although the majority of her professional life was dedicated to performance and pedagogy, Josephine Fröhlich ventured into art-song composition. Her archived sheet music reflects her expertise in vocal chamber music. Among her known published pieces for voice and piano are "Alla luna" (To the Moon) and "Erinnerungen" (Memories).
