FRITZ, September Sherilyn

September Sherilyn Fritz is a Canadian composer, musician, and music educator. She pursued her higher musical education at the University of British Columbia (UBC). During her formative years as a student composer, she gained early recognition in the regional music scene. Notably, in the early 1980s, she won first prize in the University Class at the Okanagan Music Festival for her piece titled Requiem Mass. Fritz established her career primarily in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she became an active contributor to the Canadian contemporary music community. She has publicly spoken about the therapeutic power of music, detailing how composing acted as a crucial vehicle for personal healing and joy. In 2020, her life and artistic outlook were profiled in a short documentary titled Sherilyn Soars, produced by the intergenerational storytelling organization Reel Youth to combat ageism and celebrate senior artists.
