Ida Henriette da Fonseca was a pioneering Danish opera singer and composer of Portuguese descent. Her printed song collections from 1848 and 1853 represent the earliest published examples of classical music composed by a woman in Denmark. Her surviving works—consisting of 18 romances and art songs—blend Italian bel canto opera with German Romanticism and Danish national romantic themes.
