FJERSTAD, Helen Luvaas

Helen Luvaas Fjerstad was an American composer, arranger, organist, and music educator. Her career was deeply connected to sacred choral music and university-level teaching across several American institutions. As a composer and arranger, she excelled at preserving and adapting traditional American sacred music. Her most prominent collection, published by Schmitt, Hall & McCreary, is "Spiritual Songs: Hymns and Folk-Songs of Early America (1968)", a collection of musical arrangements designed for equal-voice choirs (unison or SA) with piano or organ accompaniment, plus optional flute, oboe, recorder, or violin.
