Elise (or Elisabeth) Filipowicz (born Mayer) was a 19th-century German-born violinist and composer. A child prodigy and student of the renowned Louis Spohr, she was recognized for her virtuosity in an era when it was considered unusual for women to play the instrument professionally. As a composer, she wrote a notable Fantasia on Polish Airs for violin and piano, highlighting the Polish folk influences that surrounded her during her time at the court of Prince Starzen.
