FEIST, Alwine

Alwine Feist-Steinhausen was a German pianist and composer whose lyrical works spanned lieder, piano pieces, and children’s songs. Though overshadowed by the passage of time, she carved out a notable reputation in late 19th- and early 20th-century German musical circles. She grew up in Germany and studied at the Cologne Conservatory (Konservatorium Köln). She emerged as a highly skilled pianist and composer. At the turn of the century, Feist achieved widespread recognition through major German songwriting competitions. She notably contributed to the "Im Volkston" anthologies of modern lieder published by August Scherl alongside other prize-winning musicians.
