COURTIN, Christina

Christina Courtin (born 1984) is an American singer, songwriter, composer, and classically trained violinist. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she began performing at an early age. In 2001, during her early days at Juilliard, Courtin helped establish the ensemble The Knights, founded by brothers Colin and Eric Jacobsen, and she performs regularly with the group.

In June 2009, she released her self-titled debut album on Nonesuch Records and was featured on NPR's *World Cafe*. Her work also includes the album *Varsity* and a subsequent record, *Situation Station*, recorded four years later. For *Situation Station*, Courtin wrote the arrangements and recorded orchestra tracks at WFMT in Chicago with The Knights before tracking the rhythm section. The recording features musicians Greg Cohen, Kenny Wollesen, Michael LaValle, Danny Fox, Chris Parker, and James Shipp.
