CHEN, Cassi

Cassi Chen is an American guzheng player and young composer who grew up in Maryland, United States. She began studying the guzheng at the age of seven at the Washington Dunhuang Guzheng Academy and later studied with Hui You while attending the University of California, Berkeley. Her compositional interests focus on combining Chinese and Western musical instruments and traditions.
Her orchestral work Misty Morning received an Honorable Mention in the 2020–2021 Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Emerging Composers Competition. She also received prizes in the CCPA Young Composer Competition, MTNA Maryland Composition Competition, and JSFest Composition Competition.
