CAUSSINUS, Marie-Louise

Marie-Louise Caussinus was a French composer and piano teacher, born in Varzy on 23 August 1855. She was the daughter of the composer and instrumentalist Victor Caussinus and later married Antoine Toubhans. Her surviving output consists primarily of Romantic character pieces and dances for solo piano, including waltzes, polkas, gavottes and rêveries, together with several works for piano four hands. She died in Colombes on 14 December 1904.
Several compositions were connected with the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889. Souvenir de Dieppe, for example, was performed there on Lacape pianos. Her works reflect the nineteenth-century French tradition of elegant domestic and concert music for piano.
