CATRANIS, Michaela

Michaela Rea Catranis is an American composer, pianist and interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. She studied piano performance at the Peabody Conservatory and the Bremen University of the Arts, and composition at the Hanns Eisler School of Music. Her work combines classical, experimental, electronic and jazz elements, often incorporating technology, visual art and dance. Her compositions include Jeita for solo cello, winner of the 2018 TONALi Composition Prize, The Ghosts in These Trees, Song of a Lonely Whale, Fauna-X and the string quartet Luminous Animal. Catranis is also the founder of the interdisciplinary performance collective MENAJIRI.
