CASTRO, Maria Alejandra

Maria Alejandra Castro Espejo is a Peruvian-Dutch composer and musicologist born in Lima. She studied composition with Klaas de Vries at the Rotterdam Conservatory and completed a master’s degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Her music combines a strong melodic and vocal character with influences from the rich rhythmic traditions of Afro-Peruvian music. Her catalogue includes vocal and chamber music, electroacoustic works and music theatre. Notable compositions include Lando, lando siempre contigo, Parallel/Non Parallel, Para no olvidar, the dramatic song cycle ¡Viva la Vida! and the full-length music-theatre work EICHMANN.
