CASTILLO, Maria Del Pilar Miralles

MARÍA DEL PILAR MIRALLES CASTILLO (b. 1997) is a Spanish composer, sound artist and researcher from Almería, currently based in Helsinki. She studied flute and piano before completing degrees in composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music “Victoria Eugenia” in Granada, electroacoustic composition at the Katarina Gurska Centre in Madrid and composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. She is pursuing an artistic doctorate at the Sibelius Academy’s DocMus Doctoral School.
Miralles composes instrumental, vocal, orchestral and electroacoustic music and also works with field recordings, video, site-specific writing and sound installation. Her artistic practice explores listening, memory, stillness and the perception of time, creating spaces for reflection in response to the speed and fragmentation of contemporary life. Her works include Overthinking IC, the cello concerto Five Pieces of Advice, Another Day, Plastic Hugs. Emptiness, Aquel cortijo and Echaron abajo una casita cubierta de hiedra que me gustaba mirar de lejos. The latter received the Xavier Montsalvatge First Prize at the 2023 SGAE–CNDM Young Composers Award.
