CASTELLANOS, Maria Pilar Ossorio

María Pilar Ossorio Castellanos is a Spanish composer and music educator. Her work encompasses vocal, choral, orchestral and electroacoustic music. In 1998 she was associated with the University of Valladolid, where she worked in the field of music.
A significant part of Ossorio Castellanos’s output is devoted to the voice. ¡Si me llamaras!, for voice and piano, is a setting of poetry by Pedro Salinas, while Sin llamarte is written for choir. The extended a cappella composition Psalm 23 / The Dead combines words from the biblical Psalm of David with poetry by the English poet Rupert Brooke.
Her orchestral works include Ecos de luz, scored for woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano and strings, and Instantes de desamor y ausencia, for voice and orchestra. In …Matices…, composed for a reciting actress and electroacoustic tape, she combines spoken performance with recorded sound. The work was premiered by Belén Gutiérrez in Alicante on 22 September 1999. Other compositions include Nana and La voz de la memoria.
