Carme Passolas i Castel is a Catalan composer, music educator and academic administrator, born in Barcelona in 1966. Her name appears in some alphabetical lists in the inverted form “Castel, Carme Passolas i,” but the correct Catalan form is Carme Passolas i Castel, and she is professionally known as Carme Passolas.
She studied at the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona, obtaining qualifications in piano, solfège, harmony, composition and orchestration. Her professional career has been devoted primarily to music education and the administration of educational and cultural institutions. She has taught harmony, counterpoint and musical analysis and has more than thirty years of experience in arts and educational management. She serves as Academic Director of the Professional Centre and the Liceu Music Schools and also teaches at the Conservatori del Liceu.
Her only composition located in the available public catalogues is the Sonata for Flute and Piano. Written in 1992 and later published by Editorial Boileau, it is a nine-minute chamber composition of an advanced level. Passolas also prepared the piano transcription of Roberto Gerhard’s song Lassa, mesquina, què faré? in 1996, but this is an editorial or transcriptional contribution rather than an original composition. No broader catalogue of original works has been identified.
