Carolina Carrizo is an Argentine composer, multimedia artist, researcher and university lecturer. She was born in La Plata, Buenos Aires Province, in 1986. She studied composition at the Faculty of Arts of the National University of La Plata (UNLP), where she completed degrees in music and music education. In 2019, UNLP recognized her as a Distinguished Graduate. She subsequently began doctoral studies in the arts.
Carrizo’s creative work lies at the intersection of contemporary instrumental music, electroacoustic composition and digital media. She frequently combines acoustic performers with live electronic processing, spatialized sound, video and interactive lighting. Her compositions often explore transformations of sound, the perception of time and the relationship between musical performance and visual space.
Her works include UNO (2013) for alto saxophone, O tempo todo (2021) for contrabass flute and real-time audio processing, Del-Em (2021), In (V) (2022) for alto flute, accordion, violin and cello, and Garoa (2025) for bass flute, piano, electronics and video. The multimedia composition Se curvan, for a single performer, real-time eight-channel electronics and interactive lighting, was developed during her 2024 artistic residency at the Mexican Centre for Music and Sonic Arts in Morelia.
Her music has been presented at contemporary and electroacoustic music festivals in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Israel and Iran. She received commissions from the Teatro Argentino de La Plata and an honourable mention in the Piero Bastianelli Latin American Composition Prize.
Carrizo teaches composition and musical analysis at the Faculty of Arts and the Bachillerato de Bellas Artes of UNLP. She also directs the Laboratory for Research in Interdisciplinary Production, supporting creative projects that connect music, audiovisual media and new technologies.
