CARRIL, Lucrecia

Lucrecia Carril is an Argentine guitarist, composer, violinist, singer and music educator, born in Buenos Aires. She began her musical studies at the age of twelve and graduated from the Manuel de Falla Superior Conservatory of Music, where she completed programmes in music and music education. She studied classical and popular guitar with Víctor Villadangos, Pablo González Jazey and Mónica Moyano, electric guitar with Diego Serna, violin with Norberto García and Laura Fuhr, composition with Laura Baade, and orchestration with composer and pianist Exequiel Mantega.

In 2010, Carril received a scholarship to attend the international course Música en Compostela in Spain, and in 2014 she was awarded a scholarship for the First International Tango Meeting for Musicians. Her compositions draw on Argentine and Latin American musical traditions while also incorporating elements of classical chamber music.

Carril has performed as a guitarist, violinist and singer with the Orquesta de Nuevos Compositores, an Argentine ensemble whose members compose, arrange, conduct and perform their own music. She also formed Dúo Cuerdas al Viento with saxophonist Valeria Krumecadyk. The duo promotes contemporary Argentine music, particularly compositions by women, and performs an unusual repertoire for guitar and saxophone.

Her documented compositions include Al viento for saxophone and guitar, Fantasía I: Calesita for saxophone quartet and in a version for flute and guitar, and Fantasía II: A Valeria for solo piano. Al viento was premiered by Dúo Cuerdas al Viento at the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires.
