CARRASCO, Teresa

Teresa Carrasco García is a Spanish composer, sound artist, researcher and educator. She was born in Oviedo, Spain, and is based in Switzerland. Her work combines acoustic instruments, electroacoustic sound, live electronics, spatial audio, installations, audiovisual art and interdisciplinary performance.
Carrasco studied piano, music theory and music education in Oviedo before completing a master’s degree in Digital Arts at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. She studied electroacoustic composition with Gabriel Brnčić and later received a DAAD scholarship for postgraduate studies in media art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. She continued her composition studies at the Basel Music Academy with Erik Oña, Georg Friedrich Haas and Jakob Ullmann. In 2015, she completed a doctorate in composition at the University of Birmingham under Jonty Harrison.
She has taught electronic and electroacoustic composition at institutions in Freiburg, Weimar and Bern. Since 2018, she has taught at the Bern Academy of the Arts, where she heads the Sound Arts programme.
Carrasco’s compositions frequently explore spatial sound, natural phenomena, environmental issues and relationships between acoustic instruments and electronic media. Her works have been performed at international festivals and institutions in Paris, London, Darmstadt, Chicago, Montreal, Karlsruhe, Graz, Basel and other cities.
