CARLSON, Rosalind

Rosalind Carlson is an Australian composer, conductor, and music educator, born in Wahroonga, Sydney, in 1937. She studied music education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Sydney Teachers’ College, with studies encompassing piano, singing, composition, musicology, and pedagogy. During her long career in music education, she conducted large school choirs and founded the Carlson Chorale.
Carlson has written choral and vocal music as well as works for piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, cello, and various chamber ensembles. Her compositions frequently draw inspiration from Australian landscapes, birds, and other aspects of the natural environment. Her works include Hear the Angels Sing, Australian Bird Suite, Waterfall in Spring, Circle of Memories, Forest Bell-Birds, and Ozzie Bush Birds. In 2018, she received the Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to choral music and education.
