Célanie Carissan was a French composer and pianist born in Nantes. She composed songs, piano and chamber music, as well as works for the stage. Her compositions include the dramatic legend La Fiancée de Gaël, the eight-scene oratorio Rebecca, the lyrical drama L’âme et l’amour and the opéra-comique La Jeunesse d’Haydn. In 1891, her songs Écho and Chanson de l’abeille were performed at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. In 1893, she was invited to exhibit her works at the Woman’s Building of the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
