CANNIERE, Monique

Monique Canniere is a Philadelphia-based composer, songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist. She studied instrumental performance at Mansfield University and earned a master’s degree in Jazz Studies and Performance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. A versatile performer, she works principally as a vocalist, violinist and pianist, while also playing viola, guitar, mandolin, flute and ukulele.
As a composer and songwriter, Canniere has received commissions for songs and instrumental pieces performed and recorded by the Divine Hand Ensemble and other groups. She has served as the ensemble’s lead violinist and vocalist, contributing to its distinctive repertoire, which combines chamber instrumentation with arrangements and influences drawn from classical music, rock, jazz and other popular genres.
Canniere has also participated in projects involving newly created musical accompaniments for silent films and has been credited professionally as both a composer and musician in theatrical productions. Her solo album, Preachin’ to the Choir, released in 2015, contains twelve songs and reflects her work as a singer-songwriter, composer and instrumentalist.
