CAMSUZOU, Addie

Addie Camsuzou (born 1994) is an American composer and violinist from California’s central coast. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in music theory and composition from Sacramento State University and later completed a PhD in music composition at the University of California, Davis. Her composition teachers included Stephen Blumberg, Laurie San Martin, Mika Pelo, Sam Nichols and Kurt Rohde.
Camsuzou writes contemporary vocal, solo and chamber music, frequently drawing inspiration from nature and scientific phenomena. Her catalogue includes the vocal works I’m Not Here, Love’s Witness and Dead Paper; chamber compositions such as Murmuration, Thaw, Etiquette of Raindrops and Extraction of Stars; and solo pieces including Beautiful Bones for cello, Etude No. 1 for piano and Marcescence for violin.
Her music has been commissioned and performed by ensembles and musicians including the Empyrean Ensemble, Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Citywater and Earplay. She was a finalist in the 2018 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, while Murmuration was presented by the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble during its 2018–2019 season.
