CALLENDAR, Mary

Mary Callendar, also found in some sources as Mary Callender, was a British composer active in the early twentieth century. Very little biographical information about her has been preserved, and her life and career remain largely undocumented.

She appears to have been connected with the Royal Academy of Music, where a Mary Callender received the Oliveria Prescott Prize for composition in 1930. Her known work includes a Suite for orchestra, which was broadcast by the BBC on 5 June 1936. Although no fuller catalogue of her music has yet been identified, this broadcast confirms her activity as a composer in the interwar period.
