Susanna Bloem is a Dutch composer, science historian, and philosopher who works at the intersection of music composition, history of science, and psychiatry. Based in the Netherlands, she explores how time perception impacts mental health and uses musical composition as both a research method and a therapeutic tool. Bloem is a PhD researcher bridging multiple prominent institutions, including the Descartes Centre at Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht, and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Her doctoral research addresses how different experiences of time affect psychological well-being. To explore this, she translates complex theories of human time-perception into musical compositions. Her work aims to create mental space and foster a dialogue where traditional language falls short in capturing psychological suffering. As part of her forward-thinking artistic-academic approach, she works alongside renowned Greek-Dutch composer Calliope Tsoupaki at the Royal Conservatoire, medical historian Timo Bolt (Erasmus MC), and prominent psychiatrist Jim van Os (UMC Utrecht).
