Jo Ann Schwab Carlson Berry was an American pianist, organist, and music advocate. Her life and musical career were heavily centered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she dedicated decades to local music performance, education, and community arts programs. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1929, she grew up in a supportive family environment. Notably, her brother, Albert E. Schwab, was a Marine who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during the Battle of Okinawa in World War II. Jo Ann was the first member of her family to attend and graduate from college. She attended Southern Methodist University (SMU), graduating cum laude in 1950 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. During her college years, she was highly active in the music community, joining the Mu Phi Epsilon professional music fraternity. While she is often noted in regional bio-bibliographical indices for her musical training and contributions, her career focused primarily on performance, education coordination, and arts advocacy.
