BERLOT, Elisa

Julie Elisa Berlot (also known as Eliza or Elise) was a French pianist and composer of the Romantic era, active in Paris during the early 19th century. Born in Paris, she was the daughter of a painter who also worked as a violinist for the Opéra-Comique, ensuring she was immersed in music from childhood. She studied piano under the prominent professor Louis-Barthélemy Pradher at the Conservatoire de Paris. She won the second prix for piano in 1814 and later achieved the prestigious first prize. By 1816, she was working as a piano professor, operating out of her residence at 18 Rue Coquenard in Paris. he was highly active in the Parisian concert circuit. Notably, on March 16, 1823, she organized a benefit concert featuring singer Henri Berton and harpist Gabriel Foignet. In November 1825, she performed a self-composed Fantaisie at a concert on Rue de Cléry. Her published works focus heavily on vocal romances and piano variations.
