BERG, Annie

Annie Berg was an Austrian writer, composer, and feuilletonist active in Vienna during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1899, the Blaha publishing house in Vienna printed several of her early musical and performance works. From 1917 to 1933, she served as the owner and publisher of the Viennese popular satirical newspaper (Volksblatt) Kikeriki. Throughout her career in Vienna, she frequently wrote feuilletons—cultural humors and essays—for various newspapers. She was a registered royalty-recipient member of the Austrian copyright society for authors, composers, and music publishers (AKM). Some of her documented musical and theatrical pieces from the turn of the century include: Jessas na, mei' Katzerl (1899); Allerhand Zuckersteuer (1899); Lilly, die Eiskönigin (1899). Born Annie Ebersberg, she was married multiple times and went by the names Annie Ilger and Annie Weisshaar over her lifetime. She also published under the pseudonym Annie Berg.
