BÉRA-TAGRINE, Nathalie

Nathalie Béra-Tagrine (born February 15, 1960) is an acclaimed French classical pianist, educator, and composer of Russian descent. Initially famous as a child prodigy and international concert pianist, she has transitioned into a prominent educational composer. She is highly regarded for her pedagogical piano methods and accessible classical pieces.

Born in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Béra-Tagrine grew up in an intense artistic and intellectual environment. Her mother, Nadia Tagrine, was a well-known pianist and teacher who taught Nathalie from the age of three and a half.A true musical prodigy, Nathalie won first prize at the Schola Cantorum de Paris at age 11 and played as a soloist with the ORTF Orchestra at the Salle Pleyel at age 12. By age 16, she graduated from the Conservatoire de Paris with first prizes in both piano and chamber music under the tutelage of Lucette Descaves and Jean Hubeau. At age 17, she took the 1st Grand Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition, launching an international performing career.

As a composer, Béra-Tagrine writes primarily for piano (both solo and four-hands) and occasionally strings. Her works are rooted in the classical traditions of the Modern Age, blending melodic lyricism with instructional intent. Her compositions are widely used across Europe and globally within examination syllabi, such as the Trinity College London piano examinations.
