BARROS, Dolores Lorenza Torres

Barros is a Cuban conductor, professor, and composer. As a composer, she is known for her work with choral groups, primarily a cappella, but she is also drawn to other timbres such as those of the piano and trumpet as solo instruments, other wind instruments, and a string orchestra. Possessing great technical mastery in the treatment of voices and instruments, she enjoys employing various musical languages: one that owes a debt to the works of Hindemith and Stravinsky ; one that clearly reflects her Cuban identity; and a more universal one, achieved through her treatment of the materials she uses and her exploration of new timbral and spatial concepts.
