Ursula Bagdasarjanz was born in Winterthur, Switzerland. She began violin lessons with her mother, Margrit Bagdasarjanz-Weiss, at the age of five. Her first public performance was at age ten in 1944, playing Beethoven's Romance in F major.
Bagdasarjanz studied violin with Aida Piraccini-Stucki in Winterthur from 1944 to 1953. She then attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, France, from 1953 to 1956, where she studied with Marcel Reynal and was awarded the "PREMIER PRIX de Violon" in 1956. Further studies included work with Sándor Végh in Basel, Switzerland, in 1957 and 1958. She also participated in masterclasses with Joseph Calvet in Paris and Max Rostal in Bern. Notably, her childhood teacher, Aida Piraccini-Stucki, was a student of the renowned violin pedagogue Carl Flesch, allowing Bagdasarjanz to become familiar with Flesch's fundamental scale system from a young age.
