BACKHAUS, Patricia

Patricia Backhaus is a multifaceted musician with a career spanning trumpet performance, conducting, composition, teaching, and adjudication. As a trumpet soloist, she has performed internationally in Germany, Switzerland, England, and Finland, as well as across the United States. She has collaborated frequently with keyboardist Valerie Floeter, forming the Backhaus-Floeter Duo, known as In His Service, which has released six CDs.

Backhaus has also directed numerous community ensembles in the Milwaukee and Madison areas, including concert bands and a 17-piece big band. During the pandemic, she initiated a socially distanced brass ensemble that evolved into Sine Nomine Brass, a group that performs for worship services and has been featured at the WELS National Conference on Worship, Music and the Arts. Her compositional output includes over 200 published works. She has been teaching trumpet for over 50 years.
