Alexa Babakhanian is a singer, songwriter, and composer. She has presented her original libretto and orchestral score for the opera "Lady Liberty And The Women Of Don Quijote" with Teatro Real in Madrid. Her dramatic song cycle "Las Damas De Don Quijote," inspired by Cervantes' masterpiece, has been performed at Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Auditorium in New York City and discussed in Madrid.
Babakhanian is currently an artist in residence at Lincoln Center, performing original songs and excerpts from her work. She will also premiere a new piece inspired by Shakespeare and collaborate with theater professionals. Her recent performances include original music with members of Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble at Lincoln Center and an appearance on WFDU's "Carnival of Song." Upcoming features include WNYC's NEW SOUNDS podcast and WQXR.
