ASPEQVIST, Kristina

Kristina Aspeqvist is a percussionist and composer born 1965, from Stockholm, Sweden.

After many years of playng and studying in Sweden, Ghana and other african countries as Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Tanzania she formed the Stockholm Vodou Orchestra 2000. Raised on Balkan music and playing drums in punkbands she went to study at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana Legon for a year 1986. Since then she travels to play, study, keep contact with her collegues and bring swedish students to Ghana every year. Several traditional societies, voudou shrines of Blekete (Nana Kunde), have bestowed her with the title of honourary priestess in recognition of her proufund knowledge of the musical aspect of the religion. 2017 she was crowned vodou queen in two shrines, on request of the spirits, and started a seven years radical spiritual training. This training forced the Stockholm Vodou Orchestra to have a break -now they are back.


Kristina composes music not only for Stockholm Vodou Orchestra. She writes for various jazz orchestras, choirs, ensembles and theatres. She has also done music for dance, poetry and television/film.
