ANDERSON, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Anderson is an American-born electroacoustic composer, researcher, and educator based in Belgium. For over three decades, her acousmatic, radiophonic, multimedia, and sound installation works have been performed internationally. Inspired by the relationship between the microscopic and the cosmic, her music explores the expressive possibilities of electroacoustic sound to create immersive sonic worlds.

Her work has received numerous international awards and commissions from leading organisations including the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) and Musiques & Recherches. Alongside her creative practice, Anderson is recognised for her research into the perception and meaning of electroacoustic music, with publications spanning Europe and Latin America.

She is Professor of Electroacoustic Composition at Arts – Conservatoire royal de Mons, where she teaches acousmatic composition and semiology. She holds degrees from Gettysburg College, the Peabody Institute, the Royal Conservatories of Brussels, Antwerp and Mons, and earned a doctorate in electroacoustic composition from City, University of London.

In 2022, Anderson was elected a full member of the Royal Academy of Belgium's Class of Arts, and in 2025 she received an honorary doctorate from Gettysburg College.
