AKERMAN, Jeanna

Jeanna Elisabeth Åkerman, née Bauck, was a Swedish singer, choir director and composer, as well as an artist.
She showed musical aptitude from an early age and took piano lessons from organist Henrik Bock. She also studied singing and the violin. Jeanne spent 1814 and 1815 in Hamburg, where she studied singing, piano, and harp. Returning to Gothenburg, she also began taking lessons in composition and music theory with the organist Georg Günther. Jeanne frequently performed in concerts, primarily as a singer, and also led performances of large-scale choral works such as Mozart's Requiem and Handel's oratorio Jephthah.
